Schumpeterian Competitive Dynamics and Economic Learning: an Economy-wide Resource-based View

چکیده

Economic learning, by analogy with organizational learning, results in the development of economic competences, or capabilities, shared between firms. These competences rest on a foundation of economic resources, from which value is generated, and economic routines, through which resources are utilized. It is the mobility of resources, and their exchange and production dynamics, along evolutionary pathways, which underpins the plausibility of a notion of economic learning. The paper elaborates this framework as a “resource-based view” of the economy, conceived as an extension of the resource-based view (RBV) of the firm. Such a perspective brings into focus the resource cycles that drive real economies, as well as the resource specialization and configuration, within firms and between firms, that translates into enhanced or diminished economic performance in the economy as a whole.

A resource-based view of Schumpeterian economic dynamics

This paper seeks to offer a theoretical platform where the modern “resource-based view” of the firm might meet with evolutionary economics and the study of entrepreneurship, and with the economics of industrial organization. It does so by proposing the concept of the “resource economy” within which productive resources are produced and exchanged between firms. This is presented as the dual of t...

Danish Research Unit

This paper develops a conceptual framework within which the fundamental resource dynamics of an economy may be investigated. The framework has heterogeneous firms at its center, and the dynamics governing their competitive, evolutionary and entrepreneurial interactions are made the object of analysis. This approach is motivated by the desire to penetrate to the resource dynamics of a capitalist...

An Agent Based Computational Economics Model for Creative Destruction

We propose agent based computational economic model (ACE) that attempts to capture Schumpeterian economic dynamics. We posit an evolutionary artificial society with interactive and heterogeneous trade agents that are knowledge based and that have bounded rationally. We diverge from previous work in that we view the economy as a complex adaptive ecosystem of firms that continuously innovate and ...
